Clark Cem. - Stone Hill, d/o Jotham & Sarah Clark), 8/28/1849, Webster, Washington Co., 5 ch.: Benjamin Franklin, Giles Josephus, Eliza Jane (Mrs. William B. Mann), Mary "Molly" Louisa (m. Dr. Hugh Craig Davidson), Alice V. (m. Samuel B. Miller, m. Charley Price) MILLER, MRS GEORGE, grandmother of Maud (Mrs. Ed Cotner) --- husband bur. Cotner Cem. PITTS, JOHN b. c1842 d. in Civil War, single s/o Thomas & Matilda (Thomas & 5 sons served in Union Army during Civil War) STUART, ANDREW JACKSON "JACK" (LIEUT.) ; d. 9/1/1861, Battle at Bennett's Mill, s/o John & Jane (Thompson) of Washington Co.; m. Mary Ramsey (bur. Boss Cem.) * There were several soldiers killed in this skirmish in the Civil War known as the Battle of Springer's Mill. It has been said there were between 10 & 20 killed. At the time of the fight, 9/1/1861, it was Bennett's Mill & the attack was made on the Dent Co. Home Guard. Also Killed was Joseph L. ?--- wounded were: George & William Counts, Thomas Howe, Thomas Holmes, Lieut. Chandler, A. H. Tulloch. The battle field is located on the south side of State Highwy 19 in a grove of trees overliking the Meramec River. There is only one marker for T. J. Estes. Plans are to make this a historic site. |
